Liam Fitzmaurice
I am currently a contract web developer (ITfitz Ltd.), based in Auckland, NZ, and have recently completed a Postgraduate
Diploma in Information Sciences at Massey University (Nov. 2024).
My passion is building interesting and reliable front and backend solutions for the web - here is a selection of some of my favourite projects!

Rewordo
Node.js, GCloud, Google Chrome Extension Development
Rewordo was developed as a free and easier-to-use Google Chrome extension for in-page text translation/simplification/summarisation.
The app was also used as the basis for my Massey University Postgraduate research project titled "Implementing Embedded Language Transformation Software to Produce Effective Text Content Analysis",
which used gathered anonymous request and response data to train machine learning models to predict and score the relative comprehension difficulty level of given sentences.
These models were then deployed in the form of a text-analysing application, and accuracy and user-rating feedback was gathered to measure task effectiveness.
P.S. - Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to know more or chat about the research project!

Rocket Cat
Javascript, HTML5 Canvas, CSS
Rocket Cat is a vanilla Javascript HTML5 Canvas game.
Aiming to build a "simple-yet-difficult" game, Rocket Cat uses a single user input (space bar or
click for computer, screen touch for mobile) combined with timing control to toggle between
walking, jumping, flying, and falling.
This creates a "Flappy Bird"-esque gameplay simplicity, and increases difficulty with
(initially) non-intuitive user control.
(Note: Highscores are disabled for this website's game instance.)

ieqresearch.com
PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript
ieqresearch.com is a web app prototype developed for Dr. Eziaku Rasheed & Massey
University.
In response to the growing use of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) measuring hardware and the
acceleration of the technology's capabilities, Dr. Eziaku Rasheed identified an opportunity to
further the usefulness and applicability of Tether devices (New Zealand company) to her specific
field of Post Occupancy Evaluation (constructed buildings).
Tether devices measure a range of indoor building variables, including temperature, light, and carbon dioxide, and can be configured to alert the Tether systems' users when a variable falls outside of a set threshold.
Dr. Rasheed tasked me with creating a prototype system for surveying research trial
participants, to occur when Tether devices detect an environmental variable has fallen outside
of a given threshold.
Additionally, I was required to be available during the live research trial period to guarantee
any uncaught bugs or other issues would be quickly resolved.
I agreed, and the system and research trial were completed.
